Next Saturday the 14th March there will be a sale of products made by the Zabbaleen at St. Giles' Chuch on Castle Street (just up the road from Magdalene College). The sale will take place from 10.30am to 3.30pm alongside a bake sale and coffee morning.
It would be great if you could come and join me on Saturday to show your support for the cause! This is a really exciting chance to market the products made by the people of the Garbage Village and to help them pull themselves out of a poverty ridden life.
If you know anyone who would be interested in attending the sale please let them know.
If you feel like you want to take a more proactive role please let me know as I need people to help for an hour or so publicising the event and at the actual sale, so if you do want to do some work for charity please contact me asap!
I will post the flyer up on the group. If there are any questions, comments or suggestions please get in touch!

This is a group for anyone interested in development, charity work, environmental issues, or anyone that just wants to do a good thing today!
The Garbage Village is a community where the garbage collectors of Cairo live and recycle the rubbish of the city. This summer I volunteered at APE where several development projects are taking place to improve the lives and education of the inhabitants of the village, many of whom cannot read or write. The most heartbreaking thing to see, however, is that many of these people live in and amongst the garbage.
This group aims to raise awareness of such projects and just by joining you are helping a really amazing cause. We ask all members to take time to have a quick look at the websites below so as to learn about the development and growth of the community, and to browse the products made by the Association. By purchasing their products you are directly aiding the development of people living in poverty but desperate to help themselves improve.
Donations are also welcomed. Please contact any of the admins who can pass on any money raised, and if anyone is intending to travel to Egypt in the near future please let us know so that we can bring products back to sell.
Anyone who wishes to volunteer at the Garbage Village- something I personally benefitted and learned so much from- is also invited to contact me or any of the other admins.
Finally, thank you for reading/ joining this group- you are really making a difference just by doing so!
